Leaving so soon...

Well, this blog is going to help all of you who are interested in what is going to be happening during my time in China. Be forewarned, I will try to inject as much humor as possible during these posts.

So, tomorrow I start my journey to China. I am basically packed (mainly excluding this laptop and other electronic supplies) and saying my goodbyes to those I know. I have done this traveling thing before, but you never really get used to being apart from the people you know for a long time. A lot of people will call this being homesick, but I see it as realizing everything good that you have.

One of the things I am slightly concerned about is the expectations going in, by both myself and the people I know back home. I know I am going to have an amazing trip, no doubt about it. At the same time though, I have no clue what I am getting myself into; there are so many things that could happen, and I could not possibly come close to predicting what could happen while I am there (although seeing Chinese characters in my dreams for the next four months is a good possibility). I also want to have a trip that will not disappoint my friends and family, in the sense that they want me to come back with a lot of stories. I mean, they also want me to have enough pictures to fill a small warehouse, but I love telling stories, and my friends and family love to hear my stories as well. I want to make sure that the stories I bring back are ones that will endure, ones that will make my friends years down the line say, "Hey, tell us about the time you were in China and ..."

And ... well, I guess I will just have to fill in the blanks as I go along.

So, in short, nerves are present, and I am not going to deny that, by any stretch of the imagination. But as long as I enjoy myself and have a good time, that's the best thing that could happen. Everything else will just fall right into place after that, and I will have the stories I want to tell.
